When I saw the trailer to this movie, I immediately knew I needed to read this book. It took me about 2 minutes after seeing the trailer for me to head to Amazon and order the book. For those of you who do not know the story of "Tulip Fever", here is a quick rundown: During the 1630s in Amsterdam, everyone and anyone was itching to get their hands on tulips, in a craze known as Tulipomania. While this is going on, former orphan, Sophia, is married off to a wealthy merchant named Cornelis, who promises her and her siblings a worry-free life. Sophia quickly becomes Cornelis's prized possession and he immediately wants to create an heir for the family. While unsuccessful with this, he decides he should invest in an immortal form of him and his dear wife by getting their portrait painted by the young painter Jan Van Loos. While capturing the beauty of Sophia on a canvas, he becomes more and more attracted her and the same with her to him and it doesn't take long for them to want to pursue a future together.

Now after reading this book, I felt a whole heap of emotions. I was angry, happy, and longing for more on the characters. It is a story with a huge open ending, that leads you wanting more and more from the author. But personally, I do not enjoy such open endings. I feel as though all books should have a clear and distinct ending. Then there is the chemistry between the two young adults in the story leaves you longing for the kind of heat they have. The novel does get kind of steamy and intense at some parts, so if those kind of scenes make you very uncomfortable I would recommend reading a milder novel. Now it is not even a fraction of the intensity in the Fifty Shades Series but there are a few pages that can make people uncomfortable.

Deborah Moggach's writing style is one of a kind, and it really helps you dive into the novel and feel as if you're there with the characters. I hope to be able to read more by her in the near future.

I would recommend this book to everyone and anyone. It is an extremely easy read that I finished in a week (keep in mind, I'm a college student with a busy schedule).
